Boss WL-20 Compact Wireless Instrument System

The Boss WL-20 is a reliable compact wireless system that is easy-to-use and takes no time at all to set up and gives the player complete freedom to move around the stage without the restriction of cables.

The tech department at Boss have developed two different models of this wireless system (there is also the WL-20L) and both do exactly the same job, with only one difference. The Boss WL-20L model is designed for use with instruments with active pickups and the WL-20 is for use with passive pickups.

The reason for this is cable tone, a subtle difference in sound caused by the capacitive effect of cables of 10m or more in length. The WL-20 simulates the subtle capacitive effect of using a 10ft plus cable with a passive instrument, dialling down the treble for the warmer tone. Active pickups, or instruments with onboard preamps such as electro acoustics, do not experience any discernible tonal change due to a cables capacitive effect, and so the WL-20L eliminates the cable tone simulation.

So, if your instrument has passive pickups, the WL-20 is the one for you.

You’ll be amazed at just how quick and easy it is to set this system up. It only comprises of two parts -  a compact transmitter and receiver - each with a ¼” jack connector and built-in rechargeable batteries. Once your batteries are charged (using a standard USB adapter (5 V’500 mA or higher), you need only dock the transmitter and receiver together for 10 seconds and they will automatically connect. Then simply plug the transmitter into your instrument and the receiver into your amp or pedal and you are ready to go. Wireless connection in 10 seconds - pretty amazing.

The system runs on a 2.4Ghz frequency band and offers low latency of 2.3ms - so no signal dropouts, no delay, and no compromising on sound quality. Up to 14 WL-20 systems can be used simultaneously without interference, meaning that the whole band can each use a WL-20 system and be wire-free.
