The Akustische und Kino-Geräte Gesellschaft company was founded in 1947 in Vienna, Austria. Its original modus operandi was to provide cinemas with sound systems and various other audio-visual products, but as their expertise quickly grew, so did their ambition. A catalogue of patents soon followed resulting in the production of the world’s first dynamic cardioid mic - the D12. This mic offered unparalleled quality dialogue audio and was adopted by radio stations and studios around the world, cementing their place as one of the prominent companies in the pro-audio industry.
Other ground-breaking firsts soon followed, including the C12, the first mic with noiseless and seamless switchable polar pattern functionality, and the K50 headphones- the first super-aural, open-back headphones that offered superior sound quality from a lightweight design.
Today, AKG is based in California, USA, but the same level of stereotypically European diligence, attention to detail and uber-efficiency is still present in every product they produce.
