Here we have four immaculate Maple shells with a harmonious, cohesive sound but each with its individual complexities. 

These shells are all shaped from 100% Maple tonewood, but DW has utilised a very particular manufacturing technique to create their signature sound. Thanks to its full resonance, powerful projection and vibrant attack, Maple provides a great tonal basis for drums, but DW’s specialised grain orientation optimisation process takes these qualities and optimises them for the best-sounding shell possible.

The orientation of the grain direction of each ply layer within a shell's construction makes a huge difference to the drum’s final sonic composition. By meticulous analysis and experimentation, DW has perfected the art of using different orientation combinations to create exact timbres, resulting in extremely well-matched sets of shells with a cohesive sound. 

Both of the rack toms in this shell pack have a VLT grain configuration with each ply running vertically, reducing shell tension and unlocking its low-end thump. The 14” floor tom has a Maple X construction and the bass drum features a VLX+ orientation, both of which ensure a full-bodied sound with great tonal depth. This innovative timbre-matching process is vital in making these different shell constructions work in perfect harmony with each other, resulting in a perfectly balanced overall sound. 

While DW is renowned for its sonic ingenuity, it does not skimp on aesthetics. These shells wear a stunning Blue Moonstone FinishPly with a classy, shimmering finish and an attractive and energetic blue hue. The matching finish on the bass drum hoops is the icing on the cake.
