The great architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe first coined the phrase “less is more” to describe his brilliant, minimalist approach to structure, but his paradoxical adage is just as relevant when applied to the design principle of the Gibson SG Junior. This is a guitar that celebrates its simplicity and allows its fundamental qualities to shine, unfettered by the complexities of standard SG models.

This all-new SG Junior reissue has come at just the right time, and kick-started a whole new generation of Junior adoration. Today’s Junior continues to win over the modern player thanks to its straightforward functionality that successfully blends the humble characteristics of the ‘60s original with modern standards of playability. 

Made from a solid slab of Mahogany, a perfectly balanced vintage ’50s style Mahogany neck, and featuring a smooth Rosewood fingerboard, the Junior produces the same rich, complex fundamental tone as other SG models. Coated in period correct nitrocellulose lacquer, these tonewoods are allowed the freedom to breathe and resonate to their fullest potential. 

Stripped of the fineries you will find on other SG models, the Junior’s minimalist design allows this guitar to focus its full attention on it’s brilliant tone. This guitar produces a unique tonal spectrum that stands apart from those created by humbuckers and traditional single-coils. This is due to its uncluttered single P-90 bridge pickup that produces a high output that creates a raw, bright sound. Simple but extremely effective, this no-nonsense set-up highlights the P-90’s distinctive bark and coarse, gravelly tone.
