That's right - from a small Chicagoan drum shop back in 1909, the Ludwig brothers invented the device that changed the format of the drum kit forever, and for the first time providing players with a way to play a bass drum that freed up their hands.
As if that innovative invention wasn't enough to make their name, the brothers Ludwig went on to make a huge impression in the industry, creating drum kits and hardware that would be popular on a global scale and in no time at all, Ludwig was the largest drum manufacturer in the world.
Four decades later, a televised performance of four Liverpudlian likely-lads and a particular oyster black pearl drum kit bearing the Ludwig name shone across the screens of North American homes and cemented the brand in mainstream culture. From then on, the Ludwig drum company's success was stratospheric.
