Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Dual 18" Crash Cymbal - Multi-surface Finish

The Byzance Extra Dry 18” Dual Crash cymbal would make an interesting addition to any kit and offers the player the opportunity to experiment with a somewhat different and very interesting sonic palette.

Forged from Bronze B20 Alloy and hand-crafted in Turkey, Meinl’s Byzance cymbals already have their own individual sound. Add a dual-textured playing surface into the mix and you have a genuinely unique crash on your hands.

The cymbal is divided into two rings; the inner ring is left raw and hand-hammered and provides a warm dry wash, whilst the outer ring is lathed to a brilliant finish, giving crisp, clean definition. The entire cymbal has been pulled together by sporadic, bold hammered dimples, which help to smooth out the contrast.

The unusual finish not only sounds great but looks great too. Overall, the sound is typical of the Byzance series - dark and dry, with a full-bodied, earthy sound - but this crash opens up with an explosive, trashy sound that falls quickly and cleanly.

Due to the contrast in sounds that these dual playing surfaces create, the Byzance Extra Dry 18” Crash has a very dynamic range, which means it is perfect to use as a light ride. And of course, the mixture of both bright and dark can create some magical musical complexity.
