The Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch 22” 4-Piece Drum Shell Pack has proven to be a very popular kit thanks to its high-quality build and impressive tone. Each shell is perfectly produced to the highest standard to ensure that it produces a defined, focused sound with a warm, rich tone.

After much painstaking research and development, Tama has discovered the perfect ratio of Walnut and Birch ply to create these shells’ desirable sound. All of the shells feature two inner plies of American Black Walnut in between 4 outer plies of Birch, with an extra Birch layer for the bass drum to increase its sweet, sparkling attack and thumping low end. The whole set of shells is well-balanced with a deep, rich tone, awesome power and projection, and a confident, cutting attack.

So it looks good and sounds great, but how do these shells fare on functionality and practicality? Very well indeed. The toms feature Tama’s innovative Quick Lock brackets that make setting up and packing down for a gig a breeze. These Quick Lock tom brackets are a bracket and memory lock in one; a simple slide-switch on the bracket splits it in two, leaving a memory lock portion on the tom stand. This means that next time you set up, the bracket of your tom will slip easily and precisely onto the memory lock for perfect, consistent positioning. The bracket also reduces vibration transference and allows the drum to resonate to its full potential. The bass drum features claw hooks with rubber spacers to ensure a rattle-free performance and air-cushioned floor tom legs prevent premature decay. This kind of attention to detail and pro-quality is seen throughout every aspect of the kit.
