Tama’s Starclassic drums possess an endearing character that is impossible not to fall in love with. Their hybrid shells are shaped from high-quality Walnut and Birch ply for a big, warm sound and a reliable, consistent performance.

After a great deal of R&D, Tama has discovered the exact Walnut and Birch ratio to make these shells sing in their finest voice. Every shell consists of two inner plies of American Black Walnut and four outer plies of Birch - all bar the bass drum, which features five Birch layers for extra intensity. The resulting set of drums have plenty of focus, attack and sparkle built upon a rich, deep and mellow foundation. The bass drum is big and beefy, yet clear and precise, while the toms cut through brilliantly. 

As you would expect from Tama, these shells and shell hardware are all up to pro standard. The Starclassic features Quick-Lock tom brackets; once you’ve found the optimum position for your toms, by sliding the switch on the bracket it splits into two, leaving a memory lock portion on the tom stand. This means that gig after gig, you can have the precise setup you’ve nailed down with ease. Despite this feature, Tama has not forgotten to focus on the acoustic benefits of the bracket and have made sure that they reduce vibration transference to let the toms sing freely. The claw hooks with rubber spacers always ensure a rattle-free performance, while the air-cushioned floor tom legs prevent premature decay. This quality is seen throughout the kit.
