Tama Starphonic 14 x 6" Bubinga Snare Drum - Matte Cordia Finish

The Tama Starphonic Bubinga snare is an exotic beauty with all of the qualities required to make a great gigging/touring drum. The 7mm thick 8-ply Bubinga shell wears a single top-ply of Cordia, which besides looking amazing, emits a rich, warm, resonance sound with a lush low end. The combination of this shell and Tama’s new Grooved Hoop rim creates a rich tonal body with a forceful attacking tone and great projection, all with a subtle musical decay.

Aside from having a sonic importance, The Grooved Hoop also has a practical application. The groove is set in the rim of the hoop and acts as a cleat which receives the claw hooks that hold the tension rods in place. This is a great quick-release function that  means thatall of the rods can be loosened and tilted to allow the hoop to be removed without having to remove all of the rods from the lugs, greatly speeding up drum head replacement. And no need to worry about the rods becoming loose - each claw contains a clever little rubber gasket that applies pressure to the rod as it tightened, ensuring a good grip.

A fantastic removable snare buttplate has been added that allows for the speedy replacement of the resonant head, or removal of the snare wires without the need to alter their settings in any way. once the head is replaced, the buttplate is reattached with the snare wires at exactly the same setting as they had been. Easy rapid head changeovers with no fuss.

The buttplate is also set at a 30 degree angle to support the new Linear-Drive motion of the strainer arm. This angle allows the snare wire tape to be gripped more firmly without adding extra pressure on the shell or strainer. The smooth Linear-Drive arm provides a greater level of control over the strainer.

The strainer itself now houses a new ratchet style tension adjuster that achieves a high level of retention to hold fast on even the most extreme settings. The single click micro-adjustments pull at increments of 0.083mm of wire, allowing for some very fine tuning of the snare.

The snare wires themselves have been optimised and reshaped to sit closer to the head, resulting in a fantastic sensitivity that earns them the moniker of ‘Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy Snare’. And they are
