Zildjian Avedis 21 Inch Sweet Ride Cymbal - Brilliant
Originally introduced in 1928, the A series was Zildjian’s first line of American made cymbals in the Turkish tradition. Using the same secret formula bronze as their Constantinople-made Kerope cousins, the big difference was, and still is, that Avedis liked to hammer his cymbals in circles instead of lines. This gave Avedis’ Zildjians a much brighter tone and projection over other cymbals.
The Sweet Ride is just that: in the sweet spot. Medium weight, medium tone, and very versatile. The hammering is not too heavy and the lathing is, again, right in the Goldilocks zone. The first thing that struck me when I struck this was the air you get from riding the bow, it breathes beautifully with a wonderful wavy edge. There's loads of sweet spots on this ride, you can get a lot of different notes even on the bell!
This particular cymbal has a Brilliant finish that would fit in beautifully on a modern kit, or contrast something vintage. A cymbal worthy of anyone’s collection.
