Volume and expression pedals work differently to FX pedals, in that they don't create an effect themselves but instead, allow you to control certain parameters of other effects pedals. When used correctly in a pedal chain, you can maximise its potential and create some awesome sounds.
Unlike the simple on/off functionality of stompboxes, volume and expression pedals use a rocking-plate mechanism that allows you to increase and decrease your volume or blend your effect into your signal on a curve.
