If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The modern form of the acoustic guitar is so efficient that its fundamental design has barely changed since the mid 19th century, and its history can be traced back thousands of years. Its volume relies on the transfer of energy from its vibrating strings to its “soundboard” (the front surface of the guitar's body), combined with resonance provided by its hollow design. This is why the types of wood used, the body dimensions and the types of strings are all equally important to the acoustic guitar’s sound.
An electro-acoustic guitar is essentially an acoustic that has a fitted pickup and incorporated preamp system in place. This allows the guitar's organic tone to be converted to a signal that can then be amplified through amplification equipment, negating the need for external microphones and mic-stands. Most modern preamp units also include EQ controls so you can hone your signal, as well as useful built-in tuners.
The creative process that goes into the production of an acoustic guitar has been passed down, honed and refined by luthiers for untold generations, and traditional methods are still practised today. Our selection of acoustics is a testament to such expert craftsmanship.
We carry acoustic and electro-acoustic guitars produced by the skilled workshops of Fender, Epiphone, Faith, Tanglewood and many more besides. From solid-topped, high-end guitars such as the sumptuous Faith FG5HCE, to reliable entry-level standards such as Fender’s FA-125, all of our guitars are fantastic value-for-money.
