Overall, the kit has a good dynamic range and each of the individual drums has an easy-to-locate sweet spot, making them easy to keep in tune. The sound of the kit is strong and deep, but not lacking in brightness on the attack. The larger “Rock” sizes of its shells give this kit a slightly deeper, boomier sound in general, and a little louder, making it ideal for more aggressive styles of music. The Mapex Venus is a great example that proves that cheaper entry-level kits don't have to sound nasty; this kit has a mature sound that belies its price point and when tuned correctly, will sound very nice indeed. 

The Venus’ 7.2mm-thick shells are crafted from 9-ply Poplar and feature SONIClear bearing edges for quick and effortless tuning. Their thick, yet shallow build makes them ideal for beginners; they are going to last, hold their shape and stand up to a good beating, while being smaller and easy to handle/position - and of course, delivering an instant, lively and responsive sound.  

To get you playing straight away, this Venus kit includes 14" hi-hats and 18" crash/ride from Paiste’s 101 range. These cymbals are great value for money and like the kit, are of a quality that outshines most of their entry-level contemporaries. Made from MS63 Brass alloy.
