Yamaha Recording Custom Aluminium 14 x 5.5" Snare Drum

This 14 x 5.5” aluminium Yamaha Recording Custom Snare Drum was developed in collaboration with legendary powerhouse Steve Gadd and as you can imagine, is just as outstanding as the great man himself.

Crafted from aluminium to an incredibly high standard, this snare yields a powerful, bright attack without being peircing or overwhelming. Its attack is enough to be heard in any mix, while the dampened nature of the beaded aluminium shell means that the snare doesn’t dominate the mix and instead provides an ideal blend of power and tone.  Thanks to the rich boost in the higher frequencies and its sheer power, this snare is ideal for live settings and can easily hold its own even when unmic’d.

Naturally, with Gadd involved, there were going to be a few novel changes. The centre bead on this snare has been designed to be on the exterior, which grants the snare a more open sound and offers a more dynamic performance. The snare wires were also developed by Gadd, who prefers a 10-strand snare over a 14-strand width (two strips of 5 wires with a 4 wire wide gap in the middle) which reduces the sustain in a clever and appealing way. It also put added accenting on even the lightest of ghost notes and moves the sound of the snare towards that of one more staccato. Finally, this snare is equipped with a Q Type strainer, which offers total reliability and easy control over the snare wires. The whole package feels and sounds like the ultimate quality of snare drums.
